Well it seems that I couldn't wait two weeks so downloaded the episode yesterday and watched it last night.
First things first: The intro was awful. I like the new logo yes but the music has been gutted and put back together in pieces. In the history of fantastic and wacky Doctor Who intros it has to be the absolute worst. Just as well I didn't base my whole opinion on the show on that.
So onwards and forwards.
I was very nervous like most fans about how Matt Smith would treat the role but I was very pleased to see that he fulfilled the role quite well. As to his style well its too early to tell really. The Doctor has always had some form of regeneration sickness that makes him act very weird at first. Call me a big kid but I actually really enjoyed the whole fish custard thing. Some of his mannerisms are going to be bloody annoying while others will become endearing. Amy comes across as a very strong and quirky character like many of the woman who are companion to the Doctor. I am looking forward to seeing how both these characters develop as the series progresses. I did notice the whole clicking of the fingers bit to have the TARDIS door open and yeah I quite agree with the Doctor. I loved the old TARDIS but she did kind of look sexy with her rebuild.
The story line was okay the monsters a bit meh but I found myself laughing so hard in places and it was what Doctor Who has always been, a rollicking good adventure.
I did enjoy this and felt a little torn about doing so. This became most poignant when they showed the many faces of the Doctor and of course my first two nine and ten (and it wasn't a good image of ten) and then Eleven steps through Tens image and it really hit home then that Ten's era really was over and I cried a few tears. How sad is that really. I still can't get over how a fictional character can make me weep so much.
So there we have it. I am definitely going to continue to watch the show. I'm sure my dear nine and ten will forgive me. Don't think Matt is ever going to mean as much to me as these two but I'm sure there be a place for him in my heart alongside all the other Doctors.
