Tenth Doctor Drabble - We Start and End with Family

For juliet316 a little belated birthday drabble.   Thanks to mrs_roy  for the title.  The Doctor's thoughts during that lovely little scene near the end of The Christmas Invasion.  Fic is unbeta'd.

Family. It’s something the Doctor tries hard not to think about. Only madness lies that way, grief and loss overshadowing every happy memory.

Yet since meeting Rose the darkness surrounding those thoughts, that word, has lessened. Here in this street, with three pairs of arms entwined around him, accepting him, he dares to dream of family again.

Rose, Mickey, Jackie, their lives may be fleeting but they make him feel almost whole with their simple embrace and the knowledge that he is loved.

Aw,I read this and instantly got Song for Ten stuck in my head, so I went back a re-read it with that as my soundtrack. We were all so young and full of hope back then! *sniff*

Why hello there.

Great to hear from you. Yeah I know what you mean about the early Ten. He was gorgeous and healing because of Rose and to some extent Mickey and Jackie.

Oh song for Ten, makes me cry partly cause I adored Nine and then fell in love with Ten and knowing what finally came to pass make it all so hard to listen too sometimes.

Aw now I'm all teary.

Christmas Invasion always makes me cry. We'll get used to Eleven too, I'm sure!...well kinda sure...well...;) He's ok really.

lol, yep elevens okay. He's very charming in many ways and I did enjoy most of the episodes but ... I feel it will always be the Ninth Doctor for me followed very very closely by (you could hardly seperate them) by th Tenth Doctor.
